You can always hold a block party in a backyard or in someone's home. However,
many neighborhoods in both towns choose to close off one of their streets to provide
a large space for their party. The procedure to get approval and to arrange for
barricades differs by town:
Maplewood –
Form available at Clerk's office in Town Hall
Date (plus rain date, if any) and hours
Area to be blocked off (street between # ___ and # ____)
Name, address and phone of contact
Signatures of approval from all residents within blocked off area
$25 refundable deposit (for the barricades)
Ground rules
Must maintain access for emergency vehicles
No alcoholic beverages may be served on the public street
Music amplification should be held in check so not to disturb neighbors
Public Works Dept. delivers and picks up barricades to contact address
South Orange –
No form is used
Letter should be sent to Village President at the Village Hall listing:
Date (plus rain date, if any) and hours
Area to be blocked off (street between # ___ and # ____)
Name, address and phone of contact
