About 70 SOMa residents gathered to learn more about and discuss immigration in our towns. Ian Grodman, whose law office is based in South Orange, New Jersey where he focuses on immigration, family law, and the needs of local businesses, gave a moving talk about real situations he has faced with immigrants. He talked about the difficult road to becoming documented and to becoming a citizen, the perils for undocumented immigrants, the detention centers, and the pain faced by families who are separated at various points in the process. His talk was followed by table discussions where people shared their concerns about being an immigrant, supporting SOMa’s substantial immigrant population, and the fears faced by many under the President’s current travel ban.
Special thanks to Ian Grodman for the presentation and to Congregation Beth El for hosting.
